Campfire sites and Lean-to shelters

There are 24 official campfire sites in Tampere. On this page, you can find the city’s campfire sites listed by target area. The easiest way to find the destination is to search for the name of the destination in the outdoorstampereregion.fi map service.

We try to ensure that firewood is always available at all campfire sites, but if you notice that you have run out of wood, you can send an e-mail about it to if.tinopmakoke@ofni. Please also remember to familiarize yourself with the hiking etiquette, where we tell you more about making fires in camping areas.

Pukalanjoki lean-to shelter
Area: Teeren taival

Additional information: Pukalajoki’s shingle‑clad lean‑to shelter is an architecturally interesting structure located along the Teeren Taival hiking trail. It was designed by architect Manu Humppi and built by Ekokumppanit Oy. The shelter area includes a campfire site, a woodshed, and a dry toilet. The Teeren Taival trail passes right by the lean‑to and continues north toward the Pukalajoki crossing, where a small ferry is available for getting across the river. The Teeren Taival route will be fully completed in autumn 2026. Until then, visitors arriving at the lean‑to should park their cars along Viitapohjanraitti as roadside parking.
Peronsaari campfire site

Additional information: Peronsaari is an island owned by the City of Tampere, located on Lake Näsijärvi. It is a traditional and widely accessible base for boating enthusiasts and all kinds of water‑goers. On many maps, the island is also known as Saarenperä. This scenic island offers a range of services, including boat docks, a sauna, accommodation, and campfire sites. The island is generally open from 15 May to 31 October. You can reach it by boat, by paddling, by swimming, or in winter by crossing over the ice. Peronsaari has open campfire sites and dry toilets. During the summer, firewood can be purchased from the island host.
Teisko Forest Lounge

Additional information: Teisko Forest Lounge is a rest spot located next to the Teisko disc golf course, open to all who enjoy spending time in nature. It is intended as a daytime destination, but the seating can also be used for overnight stays if needed. The site includes a sheltered firepit, and making a fire is permitted even during a wildfire warning. However, you should avoid lighting fires when the terrain is exceptionally dry. Teisko Forest Lounge was designed by architect Malin Moisio, and a woodshed and dry toilet will be built at the site in spring 2026.
Ala-Kaulamoinen campfire site
Area: Kintulammi

Additional information: In Kintulammi's hiking and nature reserve area, there are approx. 18 km of guided hiking trails, which consist of several alternative ring routes and six fire pits, four of which have a unique, organically designed lean-to shelter with wood shed and dry toilets.
Terälahti lean-to shelter

Additional information: Lean-to shelter can be reached via the Kiimajoki canoeing route or by walking along the path along the Kiimajoki bank. For the time being, there is no landing place for kayakers. The path to the log cabin starts from the footbridge. For those arriving on the nature school path: During school hours, lean-to shelter is used by the nature school during the day and at other times in the evenings, on weekends and during holidays.
Santalahdenrantapuisto's barbecue area

Additional information: In the center of Tampere there is also the Eteläpuiston grilling place on the shore of Pyhäjärvi and on the Näsijärvi side, a few kilometers from the center, the Santalahdenrantapuisto grilling place. There is no wood maintenance at campfire sites in the center.

Additional information: In the center of Tampere there is also the Eteläpuiston grilling place on the shore of Pyhäjärvi and on the Näsijärvi side, a few kilometers from the center, the Santalahdenrantapuisto grilling place. There is no wood maintenance at campfire sites in the center.
Niihama's outdoor lodge

Additional information: Niihama's outdoor lodge and its cafes serve outdoor enthusiasts in the area all year round. The area has a large barbecue hut, two open fire places and a sauna, which you can book on the Niihamanulkoilumaja.fi website or directly from Outdoor lodge. The Niihama and Kauppi outdoor trails are easily accessible directly from Outdoor lodge's yard. Niihama's outdoor lodge has been serving its customers in an entrepreneur-driven way since the 80s.
Mustametsä campfire site

Additional information: The Kiimajoki canoeing route, built at the beginning of the millennium, is located in the surroundings of Velaattajärvi and Terälahti in Tampere's Teisko. The approximately 16-kilometer-long route has been implemented in the river sections on an old log floating bank, which reminds of the wood industry history of the area stretching back to the 18th century and the time when the construction of Tampere on the isthmus divided by Tammerkoski caused a strong need for timber. There are approximately 17 km of guided canoeing trails and 3 fire pits in the area, one of which has a unique, organically designed lean-to shelter with wood shed and dry toilets.
