Campfire sites and Lean-to shelters

There are 24 official campfire sites in Tampere. On this page, you can find the city’s campfire sites listed by target area. The easiest way to find the destination is to search for the name of the destination in the outdoorstampereregion.fi map service.

We try to ensure that firewood is always available at all campfire sites, but if you notice that you have run out of wood, you can send an e-mail about it to if.tinopmakoke@ofni. Please also remember to familiarize yourself with the hiking etiquette, where we tell you more about making fires in camping areas.

Terälahti lean-to shelter
Area: Kiimajoki

Additional information: Lean-to shelter can be reached via the Kiimajoki canoeing route or by walking along the path along the Kiimajoki bank. For the time being, there is no landing place for kayakers. The path to the log cabin starts from the footbridge. For those arriving on the nature school path: During school hours, lean-to shelter is used by the nature school during the day and at other times in the evenings, on weekends and during holidays.

Additional information: In the center of Tampere there is also the Eteläpuiston grilling place on the shore of Pyhäjärvi and on the Näsijärvi side, a few kilometers from the center, the Santalahdenrantapuisto grilling place. There is no wood maintenance at campfire sites in the center.
Eteläpuisto barbecue place

Additional information: In the center of Tampere there is also the Eteläpuiston grilling place on the shore of Pyhäjärvi and on the Näsijärvi side, a few kilometers from the center, the Santalahdenrantapuisto grilling place. There is no wood maintenance at campfire sites in the center.
Niihama's lodge

Additional information: Niihama with its cafes serves skiers in the winter and outdoor enthusiasts in the summer, and the area has a large barbecue hut and 2 campfire sites. The barbecue hut can be rented for use by larger groups, and use is free for smaller groups. You can buy firewood at Niihama's lodge. From the house, you can easily access outdoor trails in the Niihama and Kauppi areas in the summer.
Mustametsä campfire site

Additional information: The Kiimajoki canoeing route, built at the beginning of the millennium, is located in the surroundings of Velaattajärvi and Terälahti in Tampere's Teisko. The approximately 16-kilometer-long route has been implemented in the river sections on an old log floating bank, which reminds of the wood industry history of the area stretching back to the 18th century and the time when the construction of Tampere on the isthmus divided by Tammerkoski caused a strong need for timber. There are approximately 17 km of guided canoeing trails and 3 fire pits in the area, one of which has a unique, organically designed lean-to shelter with wood shed and dry toilets.

Additional information: In the Hervantajärvi hiking area, there are about 10 km of guided hiking trails and 2 campfire sites, of which there is a one unique, organically designed lean-to shelter with wood shed and dry toilets. The area is used in a variety of ways, for example for walking, skiing, mountain biking and trail running, and the routes in the area naturally lead towards the south, to Viitastenperä, where Tampere, Kangasala and Lempäälä are located, the "border laundry of the three municipalities". From Viitastenperä, the trails continue unguided and connect to Kangasala's Kaarinanpolku and Lempäälä's Birgitan polku.
